A few simple habits help keep a bamboo board clean and ready for its next use. Always follow the instructions supplied with your specific board and any treatment you use.
Wash gently, then dry promptly
Hand wash with mild dish soap and warm water. Rinse without leaving the board immersed, wipe away water and allow it to dry fully with air circulating around both faces. Do not put bamboo boards in a dishwasher or leave them soaking in a sink.
Store away from heat and standing water
Keep a dry board away from direct heat, a damp countertop or water trapped underneath. An appropriate three-slot board stand can help organize suitable boards; check the slot and board dimensions before buying. Do not store a wet board in a closed compartment.
Use the right board-care product
If the supplier recommends conditioning, use a product specifically suitable for food-contact wooden or bamboo cutting boards. Follow its application, drying and food-contact directions. Avoid assuming ordinary cooking oil is an appropriate treatment.
Our oil and wax applicator is a bamboo-handled sponge for applying a suitable treatment. It does not include oil, wax or a board. Clean and store the applicator according to the treatment instructions.
Keep serving sets and accessories separate
Some serving boards include a removable slate plate, cutlery or drawers. Remove accessories before cleaning and follow their own care instructions. Do not assume every component has the same cleaning requirements as bamboo.
Clean between different food tasks
Wash the board and utensils between tasks and prevent raw-food juices from reaching ready-to-eat ingredients. Replace a board that is damaged or can no longer be cleaned adequately.
